NETANYAHU'S TWO FRONTS
Two months after the provisional ceasefire in Gaza broke down, Prime Minister Netanyahu still has two fronts: a natural one driven by climate change, and another in the Palestinian enclave, where Israel intends to continue the war until Hamas surrenders.
The fire is ravaging a significant area of forested areas in the Al-Qods region and other parts of the country. Netanyahu has declared a state of national emergency and requested international assistance to combat the blazes. Several European countries have responded positively, including Spain.
Over 100 teams of firefighters continued to battle fires in the hills west of Jerusalem for a second day Thursday, but appeared to make gains in containing the blazes overnight, with firefighting plans from European allies expected to arrive later in the day, says The Times of Israel.
Security services admit that the fire is still out of control, but they hope to contain it in one or two days. Up to 1,900 acres of land have been devastated. This Friday, the residents of Al-Qods are suffering from a shower of ash and debris from the partially or completely burned forest. The railway line between Al-Qods and Tel Aviv has been restored.
The "other" fire, this time fueled by Netanyahu, is the continuation of the military offensive by Jewish forces in Gaza. Two Israeli soldiers have died in the last four days after being shot by Hamas snipers, but the civilian population is suffering the most, as Israeli bombings, missile fire, and armed drones continue daily, with no progress being made toward achieving a new ceasefire.
Hamas still holds a small group of hostages, and Israel says it will not cease fire until they are released. Hamas is demanding a permanent ceasefire, which the Netanyahu government opposes.
Netanyahu enjoys the support of President Trump, who has never made the slightest criticism of his protégé. To claim, as some do, that Trump is a friend of the Arabs is a lie. The president, on the other hand, is a good friend of Arab oil and natural gas.
The International Red Cross reaffirmed this week that it fears the total collapse of Gaza given the magnitude of the invasion by Jewish forces.
