31st ARAB LEAGUE SUMMIT IN ALGIERS

The 22 countries of the Arab League will meet in Algiers on November 1 and 2 to celebrate the 31st summit of this organization, whose main mission is to defend the Arab peoples and collectively face the threats that weigh or may weigh on the themselves.

This summit will see a large presence of monarchs, heads of state and prime ministers of the member countries, convinced that the current crisis is a global problem.

The war in Ukraine, inflation, high oil prices and, in particular, high food prices, have put the world in a difficult situation. Hunger extends in part of Europe, Africa and Asia above all.

The oil and gas countries do not suffer the shock of the crisis thanks to the financial reserves. But there are two members. Somalia and Sudan which are suffering from severe famine; people die from lack of food. In Libya and Mauritania the situation is deficient, but in any case less serious.

The objective is clear, to unite all the Arab forces seamlessly to face the challenges that exist in the region and globally.

The presence of the representation of Morocco, a political rival in the Maghreb with whom Algeria broke diplomatic relations unilaterally in August 2021 due to the political disagreements between the two nations, including the dispute over the situation in Western Sahara, has been confirmed.

On this point, the Alaouite kingdom defends a formula of broad autonomy for the territory under Moroccan sovereignty, which has significant support at the international level, such as that of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Germany or Spain; while, on the contrary, Algeria aligns itself with the Polisario Front's proposal based on holding an independence referendum for the Saharawi people, which has less political support.

From Morocco, an attempt was made to redirect the situation with messages even from King Mohamed VI inviting to strengthen ties and making it clear that Morocco and Algeria must go hand in hand as brother peoples.

Rabat has not yet confirmed the hierarchical level of its representation at this important event, although there is even talk of King Mohamed VI's trip to Algerian territory. Yes, relevant personalities will take part in this political meeting, such as Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations; Moussa Faki, President of the African Union Commission; Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan; o Adel bin Abdul Rahman al-Assoumi, president of the Arab Parliament.

Until 2020 there were two Arab countries that have recognized Israel (Egypt and Jordan) which have been joined by another four (United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Bahrain and Morocco). Palestinian leaders have harshly criticized recognition, explaining that the gesture of recognizing Israel has not reduced the Zionist state's aggression against the Palestinians.

Israel continues to plan new settlements in the occupied territories; It enters the refugee camps militarily, committing aggression, and above all it refuses to accept a solution of two independent states, with the Palestinian capital in eastern Al Qods.

The summit will take place at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center (CIC), 25 kilometers from Algiers. This imposing complex, named after a diplomatic adviser to former President Bouteflika, was built by a Chinese company at a cost of $688 million.

The Algerian Ministry of Communication noted that journalists from 24 countries have been accredited to cover the summit's activities, with two hotels allocated for their accommodation. These will be transported to the summit venue by private buses.

In Algeria, relevant issues for the Arab world will be discussed, such as the question of Palestine or matters related to Arab food security and the energy crisis. The countries that have recognized Israel, under pressure from former US President Donald Trump, will also be called upon to pressure the Jewish state so that it understands that its aggression does not facilitate any understanding with the Arabs.

The Gaza Strip is especially the object of Israeli aggression and bombardment. Arabs must remain united to denounce Israel's continuing violation of human rights.

Lebanon and Israel have recently agreed to explore two gas fields in the Mediterranean. This is an economic agreement that does not imply Beirut's recognition of Israel.

From ARABINFOCUS we appeal to the Arab leaders to remain united and not accept the siren songs of the West, whose only objective is for Israel to continue dominating the Middle East.
