GAZA: PROSPECTS FOR HUMANITARIAN PAUSE

The countries mediating between Israel and Hamas to reach a humanitarian pause hope that the radical Palestinian movement will respond positively to the plan presented by Qatar and Egypt, with the support of the United States. Israel would also have agreed.

The plan includes a 40-day humanitarian pause in exchange for the release of all hostages still held by Hamas, and the release of Palestinian prisoners in both Gaza and the West Bank.

T he Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has meant that even if this plan is carried out, Israel maintains its intention to unleash a ground offensive against Rafah, even if this results in a massacre of the refugees camping in that town in the south of the enclave.

At least 1.1 million refugees are in open camps in Rafah. An intervention by Jewish forces would be a catastrophe, according to the United Nations.

The North American Secretary of State, Anthoy Blinken, however, considers that if the plan for a humanitarian pause comes into force, that would be very positive for everyone, given that negotiations would continue to reach a ceasefire of a longer duration, if not permanent is possible.

We are probably on the eve of the humanitarian pause being confirmed, which will allow 40 days of peace for the martyred Palestinian civilian population.

In North American universities where a protest against Israel was taking place, the police entered the teaching premises to disperse and arrest thousands of university students who were participating in the protest.
