Mohamed Morsi, 67, died Monday
Former Muslim Brotherhood Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, 67, died Monday of a heart attack after a hearing in Cairo, nearly six years after being deposed by then-leader Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of the Army.
Mohamed Morsi was buried on Tuesday. "He was buried in Medinat Nasr, in eastern Cairo, in the presence of his family," said Maksoud, one of his lawyers. "The funeral prayer was made at the prison hospital in Tora," he said.
The Islamist leader was imprisoned in 2013 since his dismissal by the army. He was later tried in a number of cases, including a spy case in favor of Iran, Qatar and groups such as Hamas in Gaza.
He had been sentenced to a total of 45 years in prison in two cases, inciting violence against protesters in late 2012 and spying for Qatar. He was also tried in two other trials after the quashing of two verdicts against him - a death sentence and life imprisonment.
Mr. Morsi's Freedom and Justice Party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, spoke of a "murder", denouncing in a statement poor conditions of detention whose "purpose was to kill him slowly" .
