Israel, a terrorist state and an illegal annexation
Last May, Benjamin Netanyahu warned: the time has come for Israel "to write a new glorious chapter in the history of Zionism". The Prime Minister of Israel intends to proceed with the annexation of a large part of the West Bank, according to the terms of the American plan for peace, which provides for the "incorporation" of Israeli settlements, considered illegal by the community international, and the Jordan Valley.
This plan of the Trump administration, rejected by the Palestinians, indicated at the end of January that Israel "would not have to withdraw from implantation, and will incorporate the great majority of the implantations in the territory of Israel. The Israeli enclaves inside the Palestinian territory will be part of the State of Israel and will be connected to it with an efficient transport system. ” On July 1, the concrete elements of this policy should be announced. But the ambitions of the Israeli government are already arousing intense controversy and hostility from a large part of the international community.
The area which could be annexed by Israel is already under its de facto control, but, according to an agreement which followed the 1995 Oslo accords, it was intended to be transferred to a future Palestinian state.
The American plan, on the contrary, provides for a 50/50 sharing of this area, which represents in all about 60% of the area of the West Bank.
Israel has strongly developed its settlement policy there in recent years: according to data published by the NGO Peace Now, an Israeli organization classified on the left which defends a two-state solution, the West Bank had nearly 430,000 settlers in 2018, against only 178,000 in 1998.
