THE NEW BERIA
Vladimir Putin lied to us when he stated that he would not invade Ukraine, hiding that he was preparing the aggression and had already designated the day on which he would unleash it; he lied to us by telling us that he would not attack the civilian population; that he would not destroy their homes or infrastructure.
Instead he has embarked on a strategy that has ranged from tension to destruction, just as it appears in the images that we have been able to see and continue to see on the small screen.
For the French philosopher, Bernard-Henri Lévy, the Russian dictator is the new Beria; the sinister man who coldly carried out Stalin's orders and ordered the shooting of thousands of Russians whom he considered "enemies of socialism"-
Lavrenti Beria was the head of Stalin's political police; An organization that was renamed the KGB (Committee for State Security) in March 1954. Putin was for years the archetypal officer of this secret service.
"Putin can only express himself with the threat as the first argument," adds Lèvy. For this reason, he assimilates the sanctions of the West to a declaration of war; he threatens to dispossess Ukraine of the status of a country, and even mocks the demonstrations taking place in many capitals against the war.
In recent days, Putin has called for Russian primary schools to teach children the "reasons" for the war, which should be described as a "liberating mission." And in the same sense it is necessary to place the reading of his history, remembering that he was part of the Russian empire and consequently it would be legitimate "for him to return to mother Russia".
But, by declaring this bloody war, there seems to be little doubt that the Ukrainians can recover the ties of trust that they always maintained with the neighboring people. Putin has already emerged victorious by demolishing the Slavic saying that the two countries "are like fingers of the same hand."
