The head of the terrorist group Al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was physically eliminated on Sunday, July 31, by the United States Army, in an action carried out by a drone that launched two Hellfire-type missiles when this individual was in the balcony of his residence in Kabul, the Afghan capital.
US President Joe Biden confirmed the attack and welcomed the elimination of the terrorist. 'Justice has been delivered,' said Biden in an intervention from the White House.
On May 2, 2011, US forces killed the main leader of Al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, in another attack, this time by a helicopter commando, at his residence. And in October 2019, the "caliph" of the group, Abou Bakr al-Baghdadi, was also eliminated.
Al-Zawahiri had settled in Kabul thanks to the support of the most radical faction of the Taliban, led by Serajuddin Haqqani, who serves as Minister of the Interior in the current Taliban government.
The Taliban had promised, in an agreement established with the US in Doha, not to welcome members of Al Qaeda, but as expected, they have broken their word. The location of the eliminated terrorist was carried out thanks to a meticulous work carried out by the CIA.
It should be noted that Saudi Arabia has welcomed the removal of Al-Zawahiri, in an official statement released today.
The main existing terrorist group continues to be the Islamic State (Daesh) which, in reality, had already supplanted Al Qaeda long ago.
