44 HOURS OF TERROR IN JENIN
A total of 44 hours lasted the assault, shelling and shooting carried out by the Israeli armed forces in the Palestinian town of Jenin, on the West Bank, where there is the largest refugee camp.
During those hours, the terror that the Palestinian families experienced forced them to flee desperately to save their lives. Assault has been one of the most sinister ordered by the government of Prime Minister Netantyahu. Twelve Palestinians were killed.
This is what the influential newspaper “The Washington Post” points out today:
Israel said the assault on the Jenin refugee camp, long known as a bastion of armed Palestinian militancy, was a security imperative—to erode the strength of an expanding terrorist base. At least 50 attacks inside Israel this year originated here, officials said. The 12 Palestinians killed in the operation were all known militants, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
But for families trapped in the camp by fighting, it was 44 hours of terror. Thousands of residents did manage to flee. Others hunkered down in bedrooms and bathrooms. Few suffered the range of horror
The United Nations has called for donors to help rebuild Jenin. The United Arab Emirates pledged $15 million on Thursday. Algeria send 50 million.
“We hear about money on the news, but we never see any of it,” he said. He has little faith that things will change. Jenin will remain poor, and Israeli forces will return.
“They will be back. They said they wanted to eliminate resistance in Jenin. But they will not.”
Israel doesn't care that it unleashed so much terror in Jenin, because it ultimately makes use of state terrorism.
