RUSSIA-AFRICA SUMMIT ENDS WITH NO APPARENT RESULTS

The summit held in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, between the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, and the leaders of the African countries, has concluded without great results, according to what analysts have been able to appreciate.

Putin has not promised to resume the agreement on Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea, which is a major problem for African countries suffering from food shortages.

Putin has not agreed to negotiate an end to the war with Kiyv either and has limited himself to pointing out that the peace plans presented by Africa and China "will be consulted" by him without guaranteeing that Moscow wants an end to the war.

He also said that it was hard to implement a cease-fire when the Ukrainian army was on the offensive and that there were no serious changes and no intensification of actions on the Ukrainian front for now.

The Kremlin said Putin would dial into the BRICS summit by video call. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will be at the Johannesburg summit on Aug. 22-24 instead of Putin.
