GAZA: WHERE ARE THE ARAB COUNTRIES?
Where are the Arab countries? Why don't you come help us? The cry of despair of a young Palestinian woman injured in a bombing near the Al-Kuwaiti hospital in Rafah, on the border with Egypt. Her tears mix with the blood that comes from her wounds. The horror does not stop in Gaza; Every day at least a hundred people die, many of them children.
Erdogan would like Netanyahu, a “war criminal,” as he has said, to be prosecuted in The Hague by the International Court of Justice. But the Hebrew prime minister is happy with his plan to banish 2 million Palestinians, almost the entire population of the enclave, to Egypt or Jordan, to join the diaspora.
While death does not stop in Gaza, the West celebrates the end of the year and the arrival of 2024, which will begin its journey with the same procession of destruction and massacres in this small territory in the Middle East. But Gaza is so far from Paris, London and Washington!
Israel, as always, has buried the latest UN Security Council resolution. So that it would not be vetoed by the United States, the need for a ceasefire was not included. Israel can continue bombing at will and massacring the Gazawis while in Europe they eat turkey or carp and toast themselves with sparkling wine.
The resolution called on Israel to limit bombings against civilians. Netanyahu and his far-right government have done the opposite; 2,000-pound bombs drop in greater numbers these days. And as for increasing humanitarian aid, another of the Security Council's demands, Israel increases controls and reduces the entry into Gaza of trucks with international aid.
It is evident that without a permanent cessation of hostilities, the war will continue to decimate the Palestinian population and transform the territory into ruins. “We still need a few months,” said Defense Minister Yav Gallant, without giving any guarantee that Israel will completely withdraw from the enclave.
Qatar, for its part, continues mediation with Egypt to obtain at least a humanitarian pause. In Cairo, Qataris, Egyptians and a representation of Hamas seek an alternative peace solution. The plan under study would repeat what has already been done: Pause in the bombings; release of hostages held by Hamas; and similar release of Palestinian prisoners.
In Tel Aviv, the press affirms that Netanyahu maintains his total rejection of a permanent ceasefire, but would agree to repeat the formula of a partial ceasefire to reduce the pressure exerted by the Jewish population in favor of the release of the hostages, although Hamas also maintains that the release of all captives will only take place with a complete cessation of bombing.
Consequence of Joe Biden's complicity with Netanyahu: in Washington, Republicans are convinced that because of Gaza, the current president will lose next year's elections. Finally, the war in Gaza will be more effective than the wave of emigrants on the southern border, in ousting its current tenant from the White House. Regarding Donald Trump's chances of victory, the “Grand Old Party” (GOP) prefers not to comment at the moment.
