PRESSURE ON ISRAEL TO ACCEPT PEACE PLAN
There is some confusion about the peace plan in Gaza released in recent days by the president, Joe Biden, who implied that the Text was released by Israel. ARABINFOCUS has confirmed that the text was prepared by the White House and delivered to Prime Minister Neyanyahu for approval.
The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, are the ones who wrote the draft that was effectively handed over to Israel. But Netanyahu made two amendments: Israel will accept the ceasefire but not on a permanent basis until the leadership of Hamas be dismantled.
Furthermore, the hostages must be released in their entirety and not in limited groups. Israel, on the other hand, believes that it is premature to talk about the reconstruction of Gaza.
Netanyahu is willing to accept Biden's plan, unless he releases the leadership of Hamas and its armed branch. In any case, the White House believes that it is a very important step to stop the bombings that cause so many victims among the Palestinian civilian population.
The most radical wing of the Hebrew state government has threatened Netanyahu with resigning if the plan is accepted under the three-phase conditions presented by Biden. It is evident, on the other hand, that Biden has lost the trust he had in Netanyahu, and now considers him a detestable person, but he is not going to expose it publicly. The president of the White House pressures the Jewish leader, but does so discreetly. However, Netanyahu has stated in public statements that his differences with Biden are important, although without elaborating further on them.
The pressures from Biden and those exerted by the families of the hostages are increasingly difficult for Netanyahu to endure. When he said that eliminating Hamas had to be the priority of “Tsahal” and then the release of the hostages would come, he made a political mistake that his fellow Jews have protested strongly in the demonstrations.
The newspaper “The Times of Israel” indicates today: It seems the PM is being asked to choose between his own interests and Israel's, while Hamas is urged to consent to its own demise. But maybe there's a more limited US game plan
