SPAIN AND TURKEY UNITED IN SUPPORT OF PALESTINE
The governments of Ankara and Madrid have highlighted this Thursday their total support for the independence of Palestine, within the framework of the seventh high-level meeting headed by the presidents, Recip Erdogan and Pedro Sánchez, held in the Spanish capital.
Fourteen ministers from the two governments participated in this meeting, in which a series of bilateral economic agreements were signed. Erdogan thanked Sánchez for his position in favor of an independent Palestinian state and his association with South Africa in the genocide complaint against Israel, presented at the International Court of Justice / ICJ)
Sánchez highlighted that Spain supports Turkey's entry into the European Union, an issue that has difficulties due to the contrary position of other member countries of this international organization. Spain considers that Ankara could give the EU a greater development of its international impact due to its geographical position.
The recognition of the State of Palestine is not only a matter of historical justice with the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people: it is also an urgent need. It is the only way towards the only possible solution to achieve a future of peace: that of a Palestinian State that coexists alongside the State of Israel in peace and security.
The decision is based on the respect for international law and the defense of a rules-based international order, underlined Sanchez. Erdogan, for his part, maintains that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is a “war criminal” who should be tried for the genocide he has imposed on Gaza.
Israel continues to bomb Gaza, causing more casualties among the Palestinian civilian population. The president, Joe Biden, today accused Hamas of blocking the peace plan that he has presented to obtain a ceasefire. Hamas has proposed some changes to this plan, which unfortunately has a negative effect.
