As expected, the pressure from the leaders of the Democratic party and the disillusionment of his supporters has ended up convincing the president, Joe Biden, to give up running for re-election in the presidential elections next November. It was a logical decision, given the president's neurological problems and his poor memory. His advanced age did not make it easier for him to be re-elected either. His great friend, Obama, even asked him to resign.
The Republican party has demanded his immediate resignation, but Biden is determined to remain in office until the last day of his term. In any case, his rival, Donald Trump, has a path of roses to be re-elected because the vice president, Kamala Harris, is not a rival with great political weight.
If Harris is named a presidential candidate, her victory is far from being announced. In the history of the United States there has never been a woman president. It is not a problem of machismo; It is something embedded in American society. Hillary Clinton failed in her attempt in 2016, precisely because of Trump.
There is very little time left for the Democratic Party to prepare a new candidate who has the stature to stand up to Trump, so it is possible that she will finally be named the Harris candidate. It will be very difficult, if not impossible, for her to defeat Trump, who has become a hero for Americans after saving himself from an assassination attempt.
Harris has the same political line as Biden: Support for NATO; international presence in all forums to demonstrate the strength of the most powerful country; I support, with some limitations, Ukraine, even wishing for its victory in the war against the great Russian power. And unlimited support for Israel
And that is where Arab governments are going to have serious problems maintaining good relations with Trump. On paper they will maintain them; In bilateral matters they will also be correct and even beneficial. But when it comes to the Arab-Israel conflict, there is no need to have any illusions. Trump is, one might say, at the service of the Jewish state. He demonstrated it during his presidency and he has no intention of putting pressure on him, Netanyahu, in the slightest.
We must hope that Israel's political class decides to stop supporting the radical, racist and genocidal current prime minister. Depending on who replaced him, Trump might adopt a position less contrary to the interests of the Arab world.
But it's too early to speculate. Trump's victory seems discounted. Harris lacks a strong personality to be president, and Democrats need to hurry to come up with a better candidate. CNN, with a fairly clear vision, states that “there is no certainty that Harris will be named a candidate.”
Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement that in the coming days the party will “undertake a transparent and orderly process to move forward as a united Democratic Party with a candidate who can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
