NETANYAHU: “FORGET ABOUT THE DEAD HOSTAGES”
“Forget about the dead hostages.” These were the harsh words pronounced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a press conference on Monday, reaffirming that the release of the captives is not his main priority. What matters to him is the war and the destruction of Hamas.
When the war began last October, no one could have imagined the tragedy it would become over time. Today, in this war, a psychopath has appeared with no interest in the Jewish captives; and Hamas has revealed itself to be a terrorist gang made up of murderers.
The story of the six dead hostages is terrible. Netanyahu confirmed that the army had located the tunnel where they were and was about to release them, when Hamas made the brutal decision to kill them so that they would not be rescued by Jewish soldiers.
But the worst thing is that Hamas has made a decision that shows its terrorist line. From now on, the gang will kill its captives before the Israelis can rescue them. This is a tragedy of enormous proportions. On the one hand, Netanyahu claims that “I will face all pressure and will not change,” and on the other hand, Hamas will do everything possible to ensure that its hostages are not rescued alive if there is no peace agreement as demanded by the tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrating in Tel Aviv and Al Quds, demanding that the prime minister sign an agreement with the extremist gang.
This situation also impacts the negotiators who are trying to find a truce. Qatar, Egypt and the US are doing everything possible to prevent further hostage deaths, but the situation has evolved in the worst possible way. Netanyahu asks his compatriots to support him and forget about the hostages. And Hamas promises to kill them if Israel tries to free them.
What a great tragedy this war in Gaza! President Joe Biden accuses Netanyahu of not doing enough to accept a deal with Hamas, and the now clearly terrorist group wants to become a killing machine, with no respect for human rights.
Netanyahu also reiterated at his press conference that Israel will not withdraw from Gaza, no matter the pressure. It will remain in the “Philadelphi” corridor that links Egypt to Gaza. This decision would prevent Hamas from building new tunnels and fortifying those that already exist in that area.
The Jewish population continues to demonstrate in the streets against Netanyahu. They also do so in front of the latter's personal home, but the police are beginning to arrest some people, including relatives of those still held captive in Gaza.
Netanyahu has repeated it again: “All we want is a total victory, and no pressure will divert us from that goal.”
