HAMAS WILL LIVE ON, SAYS KHAMENEY

Iran's "supreme leader", Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared on Saturday that despite the severe blows dealt to Hamas by Israel, "it is still alive and will continue to exist." This statement means that Tehran will continue to support the radical Palestinian movement in Gaza, which is in any case very weakened by the attacks of "Tsahal."

In the West, with the exception of Turkey, there has been congratulations on the disappearance of Yahya Sinwar, the alleged organizer of the terrorist attack committed on October 7 in Jewish territory. US President Biden believes that Israel should now accept a ceasefire that would allow the release of captives held by Hamas.

But Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu remains deaf to all calls to end the war in Gaza and stop attacking Lebanon. The war, therefore, continues, and it is even taken for granted that Israel will carry out a massive attack on Iran, in retaliation for the Islamic Republic sending missiles to the Jewish state.

It is an unquestionable reality: Leaders die, they are assassinated, but ideas persist because ideas cannot be eliminated with bombs, drones and missiles. The Palestinian people, whether in Gaza, in the West Bank or in the Diaspora, now have a greater hatred of Israel, not so much because of these assassinations of Islamic leaders as because of the fact that Tel Aviv maintains its rejection of the existence of an independent Palestinian state.

This is the biggest dilemma. Not even the US is pressuring Netanyahu to understand that the two-state solution is the best and must be implemented. Netanyahu is criticized, but the legitimate decisions taken by the United Nations are not imposed on him. Israel does not want Palestine to cease to exist and this is an unworthy aberration because it fuels the continuation of conflicts between Jews and Palestinians.

Netanyahu claims victory for having eliminated Ismael Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar. But history shows that singing the praises does not resolve the root of conflicts, because the only way to resolve them is on the political level; something that the Jewish prime minister denies and considers unacceptable.

The Jews suffered the Holocaust. In the 21st century the descendants of these Jews are making the Palestinians suffer the same pain that the German Nazis caused them. Fidel Castro said that in the balance of the world we always return to the starting point and start over.
