WAY CLEARED FOR PARTIAL RELEASE OF HOSTAGES
After accusing each other of not complying with the agreement, the way has finally been cleared for the release of a group of 33 hostages. Prime Minister Netanyahu estimates that this Sunday a “prisoner exchange” will take place.
The final details will be taken this Friday at a meeting of the Israeli security cabinet, and for the first time, it is Netanyahu himself, a great defender of the war, who has announced that the release of the hostages “is underway as agreed.”
In Jewish cities the atmosphere is also one of joy and satisfaction at the end of this tragedy of the captives, although on the other hand there are no indications that the release would affect more than 33 hostages.
And there are none because Hamas maintains that in order to free all the people it captured in Israel on October 7 last year, it is necessary for the Israeli armed forces to leave the enclave, which has not been the subject of any agreement so far.
Despite everything, the atmosphere that reigns both in Gaza and in Israel is the end of a tragedy that has caused the death of more than 46,000 Palestinians in the bombings of the Jewish air force and other ground attacks.
Has it been Trump who has contributed to breaking the Gordian knot to reach the release? It is difficult to confirm this, but what can be said is that the conversations between Biden and the new American president have contributed to the solution of the problem.
At least two cabinet members have voiced opposition to the ceasefire, with far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir saying that he and his party would quit the government – but not the ruling coalition .
This was to be expected from Jewish radicalism, but the important thing is that Netanyahu supports the agreement with Hamas.
