GAZA: A POSITIVE STEP TOWARDS PEACE

This Sunday, Hamas and Israel will take a positive step in Gaza by carrying out the first phase of the peace plan accepted by both sides. Hamas must release 33 captives, while Israel will release 737 Palestinians. The weapons will be silent on both sides for a provisional period of about 6 weeks.

The first phase of the plan is not a definitive peace, far from it. The second and third phases are the most complicated, but in Washington there is no hope of a "miracle" that will put a definitive end to the conflict.

What remains to be resolved is whether there will be a definitive ceasefire; whether Jewish troops will withdraw from the enclave and whether the reconstruction of the territory, which is in ruins, can begin. There is no great hope that these two phases will materialize in an unknown time, but one must never lose hope.

In broad outline, this three-phase plan corresponds to the proposal drawn up by the then US President, Joseph Biden. Now it will be the turn of his successor, Donald Trump, whose character is much more rigid.

We are talking about peace, but we must not forget the genocide and crimes of Israel. More than 46,000 Palestinians have died. It must also not be forgotten that this war began as a result of a terrorist attack on Jewish territory by Hamas armed brigades, which caused 1,210 Israeli deaths and 250 captives.

Announced on Wednesday by Qatar and the United States, this agreement aims to ultimately lead to "a definitive end to the war" which has caused tens of thousands of deaths in the devastated Palestinian territory in more than 15 months, according to the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed ben Abdelrahmane Al-Thani.
