SPAIN: SANCHEZ LOSES SUPPORT OF HIS RADICALS

Spain is once again in crisis due to the confrontation between the president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, and the supporters of sedition; the Catalan separatists, whose support is vital for the executive to remain in office, despite the fact that the radical Catalan minority maintains its intention to found a Catalan republic.

Will Spain be an exception within the European Union? The answer is positive, taking into account that Sánchez cannot govern without the support of separatists, communists and other extreme left formations, the so-called "Frankenstein coalition".

The latest crisis occurred this week due to Sánchez's intention to maintain the "welfare state", increasing pensions; aid for transport and other social benefits.

The separatists of the largest Catalan party, “Junts” (Together), should have applauded these measures in favour of the middle classes and the less benefited, but to everyone's surprise, they have rejected the welfare decree.

It is difficult to understand. The radical left and the secessionists, instead of supporting these social benefits, have joined forces with the capitalists and the right, to demand that Sánchez present a motion of confidence in Parliament. That the right asked for it was normal, but that the separatists do it is difficult to understand.

There are 10 million pensioners in Spain who receive an average of between 1,000 and 2,500 euros. Sánchez's “welfare”, with a significant increase, is the object of applause from the population.

But if until now we had a “Sanchez-secessionist” coalition, the oddity of a “Right-Capitalism and Catalan separatists” coalition is emerging.

Unique case in the EU, Spain is turning in all directions and Pedro Sánchez is starting to be criticized by the radicals who brought him to power in the last presidential elections in July 2023.

So Sánchez will have to appear in Parliament to find out if he is ratified or overthrown; a decision of those who brought him to the presidency of the executive. A real chaos in perspective.
