TRUMP AND NETANYAHU, TWO VISIONS ON GAZA

While President Donald Trump is trying to expatriate 2 million Palestinians from Gaza, so that they can take refuge in Jordan, Egypt and other Arab countries, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has authorized 300,000 Palestinians to return to the north of the enclave where they lived.

There is therefore a contradiction between Trump's strong attitude, who intends to empty Gaza, and Netanyahu's gesture, who is in favor of the return of a part of the inhabitants of the territory.

It is clear that as long as Hamas continues to release (in small numbers) the hostages, Israel will maintain the provisional truce and there will be no bombings or other attacks.

But what will happen when the last hostage is released? According to the mediators' plan, a second phase must be passed in which the withdrawal of the Jewish armed forces will be discussed. But here, Israel is opposed because its aims are to colonize Gaza and link it to the West Bank. Trump will support that objective, because it is well known that he will support everything that Israel wants.

Trump's return to the White House is already shaking up the Middle East panorama. One of the objectives of the new American Administration is to reactivate the Abraham Accords, established in 2020 with the signing of a peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan with Israel.

Morocco joined these agreements shortly after, while Trump recognized that Western Sahara belonged to the kingdom of Mohammed VI, in violation of international law. The Abraham Accords must be completed with the accession of the Gulf monarchies; especially Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh, however, has already stated that it will not recognize the Hebrew state as long as it does not accept an independent Palestinian state.

The task of the Latin, Marco Rubio, the new Secretary of State, will be difficult and complicated. Rubio is not an expert on Arab countries and will most likely follow Trump's instructions, quietly.

Neither Trump nor Rubio understand the Arab world, and even less the larger Muslim scene. And despite being a Latino, Rubio will exclude Spain from any discussion of Arabs. Regrettably, Rubio has no intention of involving Spain.
