ARAB COUNTRIES CONDEMN NETANYAHU'S PROPOSAL
Arab countries registered in the Arab League have expressed strong criticism of a statement by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, in which he suggested that the Palestinian population of Gaza could be settled in the desert areas of Saudi Arabia.
"Saudi Arabia has large territories that can accommodate Palestinian exiles who would be banished, in particular those from Gaza," said Netanyahu, unleashing a wave of criticism and furious reactions among the Arab and Muslim populations.
On several occasions, Netanyahu has pointed out that the problem of the Gaza war would be solved if the 2 million Palestinian population were banished. The enclave would be linked to the West Bank and some new Jewish settlements could be established in Gaza.
The Gulf countries, Jordan and Egypt in particular, have issued statements condemning Jewish leaders who support Ntanyahu's proposal, which he made at a press conference on Sunday.
Egypt has proposed an Arab summit on the 27th of this month, not only to deal with Netanyahu's statements, but to discuss the generality of the problems facing the Arab countries; problems that have increased considerably with the election of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States.
Meanwhile, peace negotiations in Gaza are to be resumed to study what would constitute the second phase of the provisional peace agreements. For his part, the Saudi foreign minister has declared the following:
“The Kingdom also points out that this extremist, occupying mentality does not understand what the Palestinian land means to the brotherly people of Palestine and their emotional, historical and legal connection to this land, and it does not think that the Palestinian people deserve to live in the first place, as it has completely destroyed the Gaza Strip, killed and injured more than 160,000, most of them children and women, without the slightest human feeling or moral responsibility,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry statement said.
It seems evident that Israel, with the support of the US, is trying to find means to impose the forced departure of the population of Gaza, or at least some form of it.
