THE END OF THE WAR IN UKRAINE

We are on the threshold of the end of the war in Ukraine, after the meeting in Riyadh of two delegations led by the foreign ministers, Marco Rubio and Sergei Lavrov; in the presence of the Saudi minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud. This meeting will result in a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Saudi Arabia is showing all its diplomatic capacity to help resolve the most difficult and complicated conflicts. One of the problems to be resolved is the position of President Zelensky, who remains reluctant to hold talks between the leaders of the US and Russia.

Zelensky fears, rightly, that peace in his country must pass through territorial concessions from Kiev. There is no other solution in the opinion of President Trump. Achieving peace is always a difficult operation because concessions must be accepted that create regrets, even if they are necessary.

In any case, the Arab countries are showing their enormous capacity to act as mediators. First Qatar and Egypt; and now Saudi Arabia. We must take this into account and congratulate ourselves on this “renaissance” of Arab diplomacy. It is a whole new era that is opening

A statement released by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that under the directive of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman: “Saudi Arabia hosts today, Tuesday, in the city of Riyadh, talks between the Russian Federation and the United States of America, as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance security and peace in the world.”

Will the solution reached by Trump and Putin be equitable? It is difficult to know at the moment, since the level of concessions seems to affect Kiev above all. But the important thing is that the war ends and the destruction and the Ukrainian deaths end.

Trump has excluded Europeans and Ukrainians from participating in the talks taking place in Riyadh. This is something that, of course, makes the European Union uncomfortable, but it is in the character of the American president. It is his personal style and the result in this case could be positive if Putin takes his side. This is what the negotiators hope for.
