AN ARAB PEACE PLAN FOR GAZA

The Arab countries gathered in Cairo have adopted a reconstruction plan for Gaza that extends over 5 years and costs 53 billion dollars. The plan has been presented by Egypt, one of the mediators in the war that has destroyed the Palestinian enclave.

The Arab leaders have shown themselves united, without reservation, in the hope that this plan will be carried out in a context of a permanent ceasefire with Israel. The Arabs are totally opposed to the extradition of the inhabitants of Gaza to other Islamic nations.

This second phase of the peace plan presented by former President Joe Biden, and which Egypt supports and has revamped in various aspects, cannot be carried out if Israel unleashes war again. It is therefore imperative that the general truce, approved by the entire world, be maintained.

Organized by Egypt, the summit in Cairo aims to respond to US President Donald Trump’s proposals to take control of Gaza and resettle Palestinians, as well as to address the Israeli Prime Minister’s stance on ending the ceasefire and resuming hostilities in Gaza

The Cairo agreement is therefore a firm response to Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. The two leaders continue their operation to expel the inhabitants of Gaza; an act that violates international law and human rights, as enshrined in the UN Charter.

It remains to be seen whether Trump and Netanyahu will hinder the Arab plan or accept it. The two leaders cannot ignore that the agreement reached in Cairo commits all Arab countries without exception. It is a collective decision that should not be rejected if a desire for peace is maintained by all parties involved in the war.

A conflict that has caused the death of more than 47,000 Palestinians and the destruction of the enclave in a percentage higher than 60 percent. The genocide of the Palestinians is absolutely evident as well as the war crimes of the Jewish Prime Minister. Everyone talks about peace but the time has come for it to be put into practice.

The second phase, which should take two and a half years, will include the building of another 200,000 housing units and an airport in Gaza. The plan will also demand that Israel stops all settlement activities, annexation of lands and demolition of Palestinian homes
