Peace will only be achieved with the withdrawal of Israel from the territories occupied  (Islamic Summit)

The Islamic summit on Saturday gave its support to the Palestinians before the presentation of a US peace plan deemed favorable to Israel and comforted Saudi Arabia after attacks that revived tension in the region.

In a statement following its work in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the summit denounced the transfer of the American Embassy in Jerusalem recognized by the United States as the capital of Israel.

The meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also called on its 57 members to "boycott" the countries that opened embassies in Jerusalem.

Israel has annexed the eastern part of the city which is considered by the international community as an occupied territory. Palestinians want to make it the capital of the state they aspire to create.

This position has been supported throughout its history by the OIC, which was founded in order to defend the Muslim holy sites of Jerusalem after the arson of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in August 1969.

The OIC further emphasized in its communiqué that "peace and stability in the Middle East region will only be achieved with the withdrawal of Israel from the territories occupied in 1967".

The reaffirmation of this position comes before the presentation of a plan of the son-in-law and advisor to US President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The economic component of this plan will be the focus of a conference to be held in late June in Bahrain.

For the US presidency, the Manama conference is an opportunity to "encourage support for potential investments and economic initiatives that could be made possible by a peace agreement".

These investments would be financed by Arab Gulf countries allied with the United States and opposing, like Israel, Iran.

So far, only Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates among the countries of the region have announced their intention to participate in this conference.

The Palestinian leaders will not make the move, believing that Washington is not a credible interlocutor because of its unwavering support for the Jewish state.

- Support to Ryad -

Regarding the situation in the Gulf, the summit provided support without "limits" to the measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect itself after the attacks attributed by Ryad and Washington to Iran.

But the pan-Islamic organization was careful not to mention Iran.

The meeting followed two more summits Friday when Ryad received almost unanimous support from its Arab partners against Iran, its great Shiite rival, accused of destabilizing the region.

King Salman of Saudi Arabia spoke in his speech at the opening of the summit sabotage on May 12 against four ships including two Saudi oilers at the entrance to the Gulf and a drone attack against pumping stations two days later on a Saudi oil pipeline.

"This is a serious threat to the safety of international shipping and that of the region and the world," said King Salman in this regard.

In a tweet shortly before the opening of the summit, King Salman affirmed the intention of the OIC countries to "face firmly the threats and acts of sabotage so that they do not hinder the development of our nations. and our societies ".
