A DECEPTIVE PEACE

The establishment of peace between the UAE Emirates and Israel has been seen by some analysts as the agreement of the Jewish state to renounce the occupation of new Palestinian territories. Nothing could be further from the truth. The plan designed by emissary Jared Kuschner, Trump's son-in-law, only contemplates the suspension of the illegal occupation of another part of the West Bank. Suspension yes, but resignation in no way.

The US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, has confirmed this without the slightest embarrassment: “The word suspension has been carefully chosen by both parties. Suspending, by definition, means a temporary halt (in colonization) but that in mode means that the suspension will be permanent ”.

In other words, the goal of the United States is to get the Kuschber plpan to march forward, to get other Arab countries to make peace with Israel, without Tel Aviv having to renounce indefinitely what it considers (illegally) its ancestral lands in Judea and Sumaria.

Friedman, in case that plan was not yet clear, has repeated it “Israel has agreed to suspend the annexation for now, but in the future this will have to be discussed. Well, not the nearest future ”.

The issue is not, therefore, a translation problem between the Arabic and English versions of the UAE-Israel peace treaty. That is why the Palestinian government has rejected the peace agreement that makes the emirates the third Arab country to make peace with Israel.

The only hope that the Palestinians have is that Trump loses the elections and the new president is Joe Biden, counting on him to reestablish the coordinates that Obama maintained on the conflict in the Middle East. So far Biden has not spoken formally on such a burning issue.

Ultimately, we are a long way from seeing a lasting peace in the Middle East no matter how much Trump and Kuschner insist on carrying all the expansionist policies of Prime Minister Netanyahu in their arms.

The Emirates hoped that after the deal with Israel, Trump would agree to sell them next-generation F-35 jets to bolster their military capabilities. Netanyahu has reacted by presenting his veto and warning that the US has an obligation to maintain Israel's military superiority.
