SHIREN MURDER ANNIVERSARY
On May 11, 2022, the Palestinian-American journalist, Shiren Abu Akleh, was coldly assassinated by an Israeli sniper, when she was covering a confrontation in the Jenin refugee camp. Israel thus silenced a voice that narrated the reality of the aggression of the Zionist armed forces against the Palestinian people.
Murdering a journalist is a disgusting crime that Israel has already committed and, unfortunately, may commit again. A known total of 20 journalists (18 Palestinians, 1 British and 1 Italian, have been killed by the Israeli military). The soldier who killed Shiren has not been prosecuted or convicted and Israel has not even acknowledged her full complicity. The Israeli government consistently exonerates the military for killing information professionals.
The only thing Israel has done this May 11 is to "regret" Shiren's death, in a statement to CNN by the Zionist Army spokesman, Daniel Hagari, but this is not an official government statement.
Shiren's murder is an indelible black mark on the conscience of a State that commits crimes without recognizing them. “Israeli officials discount evidence and witness claims, often appearing to clear soldiers for the killings while inquiries are still in progress,” The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said, describing the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) procedure for examining military killings of civilians such as journalists, as a “black box,” with the results of any such probe kept confidential.
Shiren will never be forgotten.
