TERRORIST ATTACK ON THE TUNISIAN ISLAND OF DJERBA

A Tunisian gendarme, presumably a radical Islamist, started a shooting in front of the "La Griba" synagogue on the island of Djerba, which caused four deaths, according to the Tunisian authorities.

The gendarme first killed one of his colleagues and then murdered two pilgrims, including a Frenchman. Another police officer lost his life, too, in the shooting. The gendarme who fired the shots was finally killed.

This shooting occurred as part of the annual pilgrimage to the synagogue, which usually brings together thousands of pilgrims, some even from Israel.

“La Griba” is the oldest synagogue in Africa and, in past years, it was also the scene of other attacks of a presumably terrorist nature.
