CLIMATE OF TENSION BETWEEN ARAB EMIRATES AND ALGERIA

Relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Algeria are going through a bad moment due to two important issues: The relations of the Arab countries with Israel, which the Emirates defend, and the Western Sahara conflict, which is a major concern of Algeria.

The president of the UAE, Amir Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane, maintains that the Arab countries that have not recognized Israel (the main one being Saudi Arabia) do so as soon as possible, which would mean that the Arab League and the Jewish state They would normalize their relationships.

But while the Arabs have made concessions, Israel maintains its inflexible policy against the interests of the Arab world.

Israel does not recognize the Arab peace plan presented by Saudi Arabia in Beirut, during a League summit, in March 2002.

Israel rejects the creation of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in Al Quds.

Israel continues to create Jewish settlements on the West Bank, against United Nations resolutions.

Israel continues to attack and kill Palestinians, particularly in Jenine. Journalists are at risk of death from Israel.

This means that, while the Arabs have made CONCESSIONS, the Jewish state has not made ANY.

Therefore, the position held by Amir Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane is one of HUMILIATION before Israel, and according to the Palestinians, a betrayal. Algeria believes that the Emirati president's action in favor of Israel and Morocco began in the 1970s.

Regarding Western Sahara, Abou Dhabi has always supported Moroccan theses, like most of the Gulf monarchies. But President Ben Zayed has gone further by providing the Moroccan armed forces with technical and material assistance.

The United Nations recognizes that Western Sahara is a non-autonomous territory and that it does not belong to Morocco as long as the position of the authentic Sahrawi people is not known.
