THE JUST CAUSE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE

China reiterated today that it supports “the just cause of the Palestinian people,” adding that the origin of the conflict between Israel and Hamas is “the deprivation of the right of the Palestinians to have an independent state.

“China will always be on the side of Palestine, because its cause is just,” Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in a telephone conversation. Iran and China have not expressed a position of condemnation against Hamas attacks, but have advocated a peaceful solution.

Saudi Arabia has confirmed, for its part, the suspension of contacts with Israel regarding a possible diplomatic recognition of the Jewish state. Riyadh firmly upholds the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman, upon receiving US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, stressed that the two countries must work to stop Israel's military operations in Gaza.

Some 300 Palestinians were killed, mostly children and women, while 800 others were injured in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to the health ministry.

Gaza authorities said more than 2,200 people have been killed — a quarter of them children — and nearly 10,000 wounded from Israeli air strikes and shelling. Rescue workers desperately searched for survivors of nighttime air raids.
