A SERIOUS MISTAKE BY SAUDI ARABIA
Saudi Arabia would have made a serious political error if it is true, as Morocco claims, which has given orders to the various levels of the royal administration, so that no reference is made to Western Sahara, considering that it belongs to the Alawite kingdom presided over by Mohamed VI. .
Western Sahara is a non-autonomous territory subject to decolonization, according to the doctrine of the United Nations, which has not been able to carry out a self-determination referendum for the former Spanish colony, due to the opposition of Morocco.
The countries that have recognized that the territory belongs to Morocco violate international law because Rabat has never presented any document proving its possession. The only thing that has been proven is that the Sahrawi tribes, in the times of the Sultan, paid homage to him but never considered themselves his lackeys.
The Sahrawis are nomadic tribes that move throughout the Sahara, although some were sedentary and created the political entity of Western Sahara, with its capital in El Aaiun. Spain recognized them as its own citizens, but in 1975, the Moroccan monarch, Hasan II, launched a “green march” to appropriate the territory, taking advantage of the fact that the Spanish dictator, Franco, was dying.
Finally, Madrid handed over the administration (it did not hand over sovereignty because it did not belong to it) of its colony to Morocco and Mauritania, which divided the territory into two parts. Later, Mauritania renounced its part and Morocco invaded to appropriate the entire Spanish colony.
Former North American president, Donald Trump, was the first to make the mistake of saying that Western Sahara was Moroccan. He did it to get Rabat to diplomatically recognize Israel. This operation was illegitimate and violated international law.
Therefore, Riyadh falls into the same mistake as Trump, possibly to please the current monarch. Mohamed VI, but the Sahrawi people have the right to be consulted to know if they want to be Moroccan or prefer to be independent. This is the absolute reality.
